I remember the record shop that was next to The Regal where the Prompt Cafe was or next door, but I do not know the name. The guy who owned it had another shop at Elmers End. Remember Art Nash in Croydon Road, Penge? Yes Peter, I remember it well (Art Nash).. albeit from 1965 with my group, The Unattached!

Where was The Rising Sun then Historian??? Time seems to be playing tricks with the old memory here, as I too thought it was Elmers End.

Ha! we may be dating ourselves Richard, but what memories we have... I sometimes wonder if the young people of today will be able to look back and dwell on their memories in the same way we do? Everything was relatively 'new' back then, with everything in it's infancy - going to the pictures was an event, whereas nowadays it's just a matter of course. Good days, we had the best of it in my opinion.

Is the Fish and Chip shop still there on the corner of Churchfields Road? We used to go there in the late 1960s, but that was a looooong time ago I guess! Pete (Sorry to jump on your topic Historian, it just seemed right at the time... please delete if you wish!)

I can't help with the date, but there was rumour Bill Wyman lived above for a while... I've never really known how true this was, can anyone confirm or deny this? (Sorry to crash your thread Historian, feel free to delete if you wish). My only other memory of the place was the swish new jukebox circa 1965/66.

WoW! that's amazing ;D, that must be Kenny Clarke then... please pass on my best wishes. We have spoken since, but not for a long time now. I'm still in the process of trying to move back home to Kent, so as soon as this happens (if someone would only buy my house) I'll drop in to the Bull's Head and join you! Thanks for mentioning that, and a Happy new year to both you and Ken. I play at the "jam night" Bulls Head , pratts bottom every month, and one of the guys that sometimes turns up, used to be the drummer with the ACES............small world isn't it.........cheers brian

Reading these pages always makes me homesick... I left Beckenham in 1968 on a two week jaunt 'oop north', chasing my then girlfriend who had to move as her father's job took him all over the country. Some 43 years later and I'm still here, well and truly stuck as no one wants to buy my house - will I ever get back home??? People say the old place isn't the same, but....... Anyone want a lodger???

What a great find Nigel, I'm just looking into this! I remember the old Scout hut in Bromley as we used to rehearse there too; not with The Aces, but a slightly later band of mine called The Misfits, in 1964. This was on Masons Hill (assuming the poster of the video is referring to the same hut, of course), but I do know we all used to practice in the same place, including The Konrads and The Trubeats (with Pete Frampton). I'll add some bits to the Youtube post in the hope someone else adds to it. Glad you liked the Wickham Goes Pop poster, I was really pleased to find that as there's conflicting opinion as to where the second concert was actually held, and this has cleared it up. I was at both of course, but even I thought both shows were at Wickham Halls, Sussex Road... just shows how time plays tricks on the old memory. ;D

Hi Brian, and sorry for the late reply, it's been a mad month here! This means you would have played at the Wickham Goes Pop concerts then, along with The Trubeats, The Konrads and my own group, The Aces. I've added a couple of posts to the site regarding that, along with another in which I asked about the record shop on the High Street (Robertsons). I also came across a poster for the second Pop concert, Wickham Goes Pop 2 in November 1963, of which I have now added to my original Wickham Goes Pop post, so you will see your band name right up there! It's good to hear everyone's memories and be able to go back! Pete

Thanks Chrisdoran. Yes, from the dates we now have it's most likely to have been Logans, where my father worked.

UPDATE to my original theory as to the location of the TWO 1963 Wickham Goes Pop concerts. I initially thought BOTH concerts were staged at Wickham Halls, Sussex Road, West Wickham, but I can now 100% confirm the 2nd show was at the Assembley Rooms, Gates Green Road, Coney Hall. on the 21st November 1963. I recently aquired a poster with the all the details, so I'll attempt to post it here. Pete Attachments:

Thanks Historian, just what I needed. My father used to work there after he left the David Greig company (Brixton and Herne Hill branches), so definitely during the mid 1930s. I'm taking a look at the photos as we speak. Pete There was a bakers called Logans Retail Trades LTD Bakers, that was on the corner of Mackenzie Rd. This was from the 1938 street directory. Rudlands and northams were there then, there was also a wine merchants in the same shop as the one today. If you go to The Clockhouse images on this site you will see that there was a Bakers called Hobbins there in the early 1900s and another bakers there in 1920.

Hi, does anyone know of a bakery (shop) on Beckenham Road between Mackenzie Road and Birkbeck Road that existed in the 1930s? Thanks. Pete

Hi R. Beckett. Sorry no one seems to recall your query, but my grandfather lived at 135 Blandford Road at the time... his name was Cyrus FISK and the family were there between 1910 and 1939. Probably little or no help in your enquiry, but just thought I'd mention it in case the family name rings a bell with you. Pete Fisk

Hi Brian, was that Pip Blakemore & The Burnettes by any chance? I can relate to everything else too, good days! Pete
