There was a really old sweet shop on the corner of Eden Park Ave and upper Elmers End Rd that was dark and dingy and really smelt of cats or it could have the old smelly women that owned it!! Seem to remember you could buy packs of five Park Drive f*gs there... There is a photo of the shop in the photo gallery on this site in the Eden Park folder. I remember the shop well.

Is anyone on here a descendant of a George Allen Knight who died in WW1. He lived in Beckenham.

Hi, If you go upstairs in the reference section of Beckenham Library in Beckenham Road and turn right you will find some large bound journals containing the Beckenham and Penge Advertiser/Beckenham Journal. These newspapers go back to the 1800s. They have not got every paper, some years are missing. At Bromley Central Library they have all the old newspapers on micro film and you can print or scan them. www.bromley.gov.uk/directory_record/34387/central_library

The Hospital replaced the Beckenham and Penge Maternity Home and was built in 1939 and closed in 1986. The site is now a sheltered complex owned by Morley College.
