The shop was owned by an elderly gent, I always thought that one of the two young lads who worked in there owned it.
I bought my first Harington jacket in there for £4.50, a green one.
Does anyone know when the shop closed down?

No, sorry.
My only connection with clothing was with school uniforms, from the premises of Josiah Messent on the REGAL roundabout. That was in 1941. Amazing how long those blazers, ties and caps lasted. I still have the cap badge.

Josiah Messent !!! I bet even in those days you still had to have a few quid to go in that shop. If it were still around today I bet a pair of carpet slippers would cost a monkey. Sell the cap n badge on Ebay.

Ah! Ben Sherman's and Levis, the suit of the Sixties generation. My love of Oxford shirts has never left me and I still have several pairs of Levis. Sherricks was a great shop in Penge.

Worked in Burtons Penge until 1970. Barry ran Sherricks but the old man owned it. Dales was the other shop for kit. Sherricks did bennies and sta press. Burton was mostly made to measure in those days. I was lucky as got all my suits made using 14 Dormeul Tonik mohair. 13" centre vent 3 button jacket Trs 3/4 turn up. 17 1/2 " knee 17 1/2" bottoms. Proper Harringtons came from Squires in Twickeham where you got your Royals or Tassled loafers. If anyone has pictures of those days would be v interested
