Hi, I grew up on Ravenscroft road (Elmers end road end) in the 80’s. Either side of my house were factories, one of which I think was called WC Kendall and had something to do with televisions-I think. The other was mixed use, with garages, car repair and workshops, with one section full of lathes making telecommunications connectors out of brass. I can’t remember the name of this company, but I was allowed a look round & a bag full of scrap brass, which was quite exiting as a kid, as it was like gold. The site was re-developed into flats in 1989, with some of the old business being re-located to Bromley. The Kendall factory was re-developed some years later. It’s a shame so much of this industry has gone now. On a recent walk back to the area (I now live in another part of Beckenham), I noted that Bondaglass-Voss & IC optical systems are there. I’m curious about some of the other industry in bygone Beckenham. I guess one of the more famous was Muirhead.
