Lived in Croydon, was regular on a Saturday night with my friends. Bit of a trek changing trains to get there. Thought we were super cool wearing jeans and tee shirts with cap sleeves and glittery belts. Loved the atmosphere and the giant bat suspended from the ceiling. The music was good, not as loud or as bass as it is now. Everyone wanted to wear a white tee shirt to show up under uv light. Girls really did dance around their handbags. Boys really did gawp and were tribally selective as to whom they danced with. There was a guy with a shark on his tee shirt with a Killer logo. Guess it was around 1977 (Jaw's Part 1). I went and brought the same tee shirt as I was so impressed thinkg it was from C&A's.

The last time I went to Tites, was in 1974. On this particular evening, I won an LP. The DJ, asked if there was anyone who could tear a phone book in half before a record that he put on stopped, well I did it, it was something I had learned to do long ago. Afterwards, the DJ came and found me and asked me to show him how to do it, which I did, so I suppose this became his party trick for a while.
