Has anyone got any photos of the day?
Is anyone in contact with any of the bands that played on the day? They were Comus, Gun Hill, Gas Works, Miscarriage, Bridget St, John, Nita and Dave Jones, Kamirah, Giles and Abdul

Update.
So far Angie Bowie, Comus and Keith Christmas have been in contact.
Juniors Eyes, Oswald K and a local band from Penge called Appendix Part 1 featuring Bill Leisangang, Neil Holmes, Alistaire, Lovelock and Robert Jackson were due to play but there is no record of them performing. Does anyone know if they did?

Bridget St John also got in touch and added her input.

Mary Finnigan has been contacted also Bill Liesegang from Appendix Part One.
Some more artist names have been given, one is Mox. Tim Goff was the DJ and other people involved were Chas and Liz Lippeat.
There are now plans to have a plaque placed on the Bandstand in Croydon Road in 2009 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Beckenham Free Festival.
Will keep you posted.

quote: This festival will be homage to the Free Festival, organised by David Bowie & the Beckenham Arts Lab, which was held at Croydon Road Recreational Ground in Beckenham on 16 August 1969. The aim of the festival is to raise funds to save the Bandstand on which David Bowie has performed at the Free Festival in 1969. This is no ordinary bandstand! This Late Victorian Cast Iron Bandstand has historic and sentimental value and is presently in a desperate need of restoration. Friends of the Park www.becrec.net/ are organizing the ‘Memory of a Free Festival’ musical festival in September 2013 and are looking for volunteers to help at the event. Any help is welcome! We are looking for total of 4 bands to play at the bandstand that could perform any selection of David Bowie songs (a short tribute if you like) as well as own music material. We are also looking for volunteers to collect donations, security, face painting amongst other organisational tasks. The entrance will be free, but as the purpose of the event is to help raise the funds for the bandstand renovations, there will be buckets shaken at the festival to collect donations. Please contact Natasha by e-mail if interested in participating. Otherwise look out for the final announcement of the date and come along!! We also welcome PayPal donations via www.becrec.net/ towards the renovations of the bandstand, please refer to the website. Many thanks Natasha memoryofafreefestival2013@gmail.com
