Did you go to the Drum? in Parish Lane Penge, who do you remember there? they had a 5-aside football team, had good visiting bands playing, it was a great place to go, even though I had to tell my parents I was going to a friends house then sneak off to the club!! We all thought we were 'cool' going there, quite grown up!! drink coke all night!

Hi Chelseagirl. Yes, I remember The Drum, our band The Unattached played the opening night on 17th September 1966 supporting Peter Frampton's new band, The Herd! If you look a bit earlier in the Memories posts you'll find a couple of more of mine, I think I will have mentioned this in one of those.
As for names... our band for a start was Robert Jackson on drums, John Berry on vocals and rhythm guitar, Bill ****** (sorry, I forget his surname) or Barry Collins on bass guitar, and myself Pete Fisk on lead guitar. We played mostly the current Pop stuff of the time, Beatles, Stones, The Who, Kinks, Small Faces etc.
I have some photos taken on that very night if you would like to see them, one shows some of the audience so you may recognise someone, even yourself if you were there, though this may have been before your time! I do remember one girl in particular as she threw me a 'Gonk', of which I still have to this day - I think her name was Linda Tiles so it would be nice to know if she is still around. Another band around at the time were The Villains but beyond that names of people in general escape, it was a very long time ago!
Anyway, I hope that is of interest to you. Pete :-)

Ha! Yes, it sure is a small world. I think it might have been me that put Rob in touch with you from your original post regarding the Appendix band, I'll have to look back at your earlier posts though to confirm that but it was either on here or the VN site. We're in touch all the time now, which is nice, especially after 40 years, though he took a bit of finding - it turned out he lived just 50 miles from where I was living and had been doing for some 20 years, albeit some 150 miles north of Penge! Great article re the gig anyway, keep up the good work! Pete PS.. sorry to crash your thread, Chelseagirl.

Hi Appendix... sorry, no idea what your name was, but presumably you were in the band with Rob (Jacko) then? I was only speaking to him an hour ago, he's fine, are you in touch?
Re Linda... yes, I've tried to contact her via Rob's sister (Jackie) but to no avail, maybe I should try again. If anyone knows her, maybe they could mention I'm trying to get in touch. ;D

Good lord, what a surprise, I went to school with Linda Tiles and have had contact with her recently via Friends Reunited. Lesley Alderson and Lesley Alderton were always with her so you probably knew them too, I remember a bit of a tiff when one of the Lesley's wanted a bendy toy that was on the mike stand. I went to the Drum but it was a risky business because my father taught at the school across the road so I had to keep a low profile.

Ha! I wonder if that was my Gonk!!! I still haven't heard from Linda, although I did wonder if the email address I was given was wrong... Rob (Jacko, the drummer)'s sister (Jackie) passed on an address to me but it failed, so, if you speak to Linda again perhaps you could mention me? It seems I may have some photos of her at The Drum if she cares to get in touch! Ta. I don't remember the other two girls you mention by name, but they may also be on the photos I have! The two Lesley's were easy to spot, one had very long dark red hair and the other was a little on the late size with short black hair, they were always with Linda, I will mail her for you Pete.

Thanks for that Chezzie, it would be nice to be able to confirm it was actually Linda who gave me the Gonk! I'll take another look at the photos and see if there's anyone else clearly visible; the description of the two Lesley's does ring a bell, but it was a very long time ago! Had a few friends who lived in them. There is some photos on this site in the Eden Park album that would interest you also The Rising Sun one. Go to the main site and follow instructions, if you have any photos to share that would be great. I can upload them to the site. www.beckenhamhistory.co.uk
