I frequent Tites Disco during mid 70's when Lee, Rocking Richard & Dave Mitchell were resident d'j's. Anyone recall Spam & Colslaw??? The rolls Royce was in situ then as we use to pay the girl in there our entrance money. Wolfman the Gladiator was resident BOUNCER! D'j's Rosoe, Johnnie Walker etc., appeared on Fridays I remember guest appearances from Barry Blue & O'jays Mike Loveday was the owner back then. Anyone recall any of this???

I remember all of it. The spam days were so that the club could be licenced to stay open late. The girl in the rolls was Mikes wife. I have not seen Richard for about 16 years. Lee was a good DJ, played a lot of soul there. Thurs was a good night but getting up for work Friday was hard then back down the in the evening. Saturdays was over to Ilford and The Lacy Lady. Good times in Tites in the 70s.

I well remember all the hot Saturday nights at the Beckenham Ballroom as it was called then next to the station. This was 1963-5 with much dancing with my date,Norma Richardson,to Denny Mitchell. At the time we used to alternate with the Regal and even the Royston nearer to Penge. Do any interior shots of any of these venues survive?

I was in Croydon High St yesterday near the Flyover and I thought of Dr Jim's Nightclub and wondered where it was. I seem to remember walking in via an alley or shopfront (never remembered coming out). Does anyone know what number High St it would have been back in the day? I did notice that the large pub further down that is now called the Tree is still there, I think the club upstairs used to be called Busby's. Further down the road was The Red Deer and even further was The Purley Orchid, now a fitness club. The Orchid seemed like it was massive inside. I wonder if the is a photo of it around? I turned up Martin Miles .. I'm doing a bit of research into a bloke called Neil Holmes. I saw his name in this link to Beckenham Junction nightclub in 1969. I think he died between 2003 and 2005. Does anyone remember him or know anything about him?

Neil was lead singer of the Penge band Appendix Part One, the band featured Bill Leisagang (lead guitar); Neil Holmes (lead vocals); Al Lovelock (bass) and Rob Jackson (drums). See here www.beckenhamhistory.co.uk/davidbowie4a.html

Muffinjackson.... are you by any chance related to Rob Jackson, the drummer from Appendix, Neil's band? If not, I can put you in touch with him - he would probably be able to help you. Hi all,
I have just stumbled on this thread. I have many memories of Tites Club.
I started work there in late 1974. I worked in the cloak room....took the coats and jackets from people after they had paid their entry at the Rolls.
The lady who worked in the Rolls Royce ( and I do forget her name) was the girlfriend/ wife of the manager, Dave Thompson. She drove an MGB.....and Dave had a green Mustang. I also did some painting work at their house
Mike Loveday was the owner....and he drove a yellow E-Type.
Yes, the resident DJ was Lee, real nice dude. Pat Skillern? was one of the bouncers.
Small Tony was a barman in the bar downstairs. I bought my first motor bike from him....a red Suzuki GT 250.
My best mate, Ronnie Griffin got me the job. He was a glassy ( collecting the glasses and restocking the bar). R.I.P mate. We had a lot of laughs.....especially after hours staff drinkies!
I remember a regular...Steve Hains? who was an Elton John fanatic. Always wore the most amazing glasses. Did he not jump off a lot of the bridges over the Thames for a charity fundraiser??
I remember the night the Drifters played.....packed!
I also worked there during the day. At the time they were creating a new look..... Cave like.....rough plaster on mesh. The chap doing this was called Roger Miles. He was mad on Rover V8's and David Bowie. In fact I do believe there was a close connection there. I think he used to give DB a lift in his car regularly up to Bromley. I am still indebted to Roger to his help.
The DJ box was molded as a giant spider, and over the dance floor was a giant bat suspended by chains from the roof. The bat had 2 red bulbs for its eyes.......and whose job was it to replace blown bulbs? Yep me ! I was the lightest. But once I had climbed on top of the bat some b.....d gave it a shove. I was terrified.
Status Quo were working on a new album and needed a place to rehearse . So they were there every day for a month. We were working away plastering....and just a few meters away Down Down was coming at us full bore.!
Just my two bobs worth!
Regards, ajhp

wery interesting ajhp Think I'd already left the area by then but I knew Pat and John Skillen , more so Pat than his elder brother John. Their family lived a stones throw in Westmoreland road Bromley. I didn't know Pat worked as a bouncer then, but I did know he wasn't shy of a bit of fisticuffs bless him . Steve,a black guy like Lee I knew well from the Sound System scene at the Penthouse Club in Bromley and he might have been working at the Club at the time you mention.
