The Prompt made great cucumber sandwiches back in the 60s. A couple of brothers took it over in the 70s and served Sunday lunch, the café was packed at that time. I can not remember if it had a drinks licence.

Wasn't the Prompt used by Greasers / Motorbike boys during the early 70s ?

I remember the Prompt Corner cafe very well. 1961 and the decor/theme was Theatre, with the classical actor's masks hanging criss-cross on the wall and in their sign outside. I remember that time of early teenage independence, and the first tentative steps out into the real world. With money earned from my paper round - 10 shillings a week - and treating myself to a coffee and scone there back in '61 aged 13 after buying my first casual piece of sportswear from the men's clothing shop next door - a Sabre Saturday Shirt. How groovy! I recall having the impression that the two guys who ran the place were stage/actor types themselves. May be wrong....
Tennis with Jane in the park, and walks by the waterfall in Kelsey Park with my mum. I can still smell that wonderful pond water smell rising from the waterfall in summertime. Drink of water from the fountain by the lake, steel cups chained to the higgldypiggldy brickwork.
My pal Johnathon Collier and I used to go to the Brig O' Doon just past the motorcycle shop opposite the Regal cinema. We would sit nervously sipping chicken soup trying to be very grown up. Bowl of soup and a crusty roll? 1 shilling for the soup, roll 2d - extra charge if you wanted butter as well ! Innocent times, simple pleasures. I'm sure we were happier then than youngsters today, what with relentless media pressure, Internet and Facebook pushing unattainable ideals.

Who owned the prompt corner cafe in late 70s? Was it a lady?
