I remember purchasing my first suit from the 50 Bob Tailors in Penge. Couldn't afford Burtons at that time.
They were placed taking a direct diagonal across from the old Police Station in Penge High Street - to a store on the corner of Croydon Road.
A cousin of mine did the same some time after - insisting he had one off the tailor dummy in the window - to the much amusement of my Mother & Father.
Wonder if anyone else remembers that establishment?

My Dad bought a suit there and the colour was called black person brown and that's not a politically correct word for a colour now a days.

As it has come to my notice that the main Co-op Bakery Unit was sited in a building just behind the 50 bob Tailors. My uncle Jack was the master baker in charge of that establishment. When I get time I will post more details on the other topic covering bread shops in the Beckenham Road.
