I remember the record shop that was next to The Regal where the Prompt Cafe was or next door, but I do not know the name. The guy who owned it had another shop at Elmers End.

Here's a google map link of the row of shops opposite Clock House Stn where he had a small second hand record shop at that time.. g.co/maps/dnjw7 I knew him as a Bromley boy from the Tigers Head (Chiselhurst)

KMK records, that's it.
The second hand record shop at Clock House was owned by a guy called Martin who still has a record and CD shop in London Road, Sevenoaks.

Pete, rember Art Nash but what was the record shop in Penge, got all my reggae and ska there opposite the Crooked Billet, up from the undertakers. Remember the Promt, lived in Manor View, Sainsburys car park now. We used to go to a cafe on Kent House bridge and drink Fanta. Played in a group at the Drum in a competition we were pretty awful but goof fun at 16. The group that beat us I think were Black Box Philosophy. Living in Wales now and after 30 years away I am back working in London but no wish to go back to Beckenham, just good memories ( and bad ones too !!)

Hi Petefish (strange how similar our names are, assuming yours is Fish of course - mine is Fisk if you didn't know!). Art Nash was just behind the Pawleyne Arms on the corner of Evelina Road, in the first row of shops off Croydon Rd, Penge. I think there was another music shop in Penge but this may have come later. The other one we used (in the mid 60s) was Normans on Village Way, Beckenham. I don't recall the cafe at Kent House bridge but we did use the one on Clock House bridge - I've already added a post on here regarding that if you care to take a look - it used to be known as The Fiesta, but I think it had changed it's name by the time we used it... you couldn't beat a cup of old Maurice's watered down tea, A Whiter Shade Of Pale on the jukebox and a go on the pintable! Pete, your right, it was the Fiesta at Clock House Bridge and I played the pintable many a time. Regarding the record shop you will have to put me right, I thought the Crooked Billet was where the 227 turned around and that was where the Pawleyne Arms was ? I bought my first Muddy Waters album from Normans. I think I was just a youngster in the 60's, just 60 myself now, 'Fish' was my nickname but we share the same first name. Still working my way through all the posts, real memory jerkers !

Hi Pete. Ok, firstly, I'm not familiar with the record shop near the Crooked Billet, so I can't help on that, but I can confirm the Pawleyne Arms is further along, at the traffic lights (High Street / Croydon Rd / Green Lane). I suspect you're confusing the Pawleyne Arms with The Dewdrop, which is almost opposite the Crooked Billet on Maple Rd. I'd forgotten about the 227 turnaround by the way, I think you may be right there! Re The Fiesta... yes, I've spent many a happy hour in there! Take a look through some of my older posts, you'll find one regarding my group (The Unattached) playing at The Drum, supporting The Herd in September 1966, along with a copy of the original poster. There's some good stuff on the site if you trawl around, have fun! Pete, your right, it was the Fiesta at Clock House Bridge and I played the pintable many a time.
