The Clock House Pub was not there very long but does anyone know when it was built?
The site stood empty for many years after The Prince Arthur got bombed during WW2.

I can't help with the date, but there was rumour Bill Wyman lived above for a while... I've never really known how true this was, can anyone confirm or deny this? (Sorry to crash your thread Historian, feel free to delete if you wish). My only other memory of the place was the swish new jukebox circa 1965/66.

I seem to remember the Pub was rebuilt maybe early 60s,and renamed The Clockhouse Tavern. I used to frequent said pub Friday lunchtimes with a fellow workmate(we worked at E.H.Hall & Partners Barnmead Road) that would have been 1965 to 1968 so was just a short walk. A couple of pints of Double Diamond and a couple of whopper cheese rolls lovely jubbly!!!

"Double Diamond - the beer the men drink"... words from the TV advertising campaign if my memory serves me right! It didn't do much for me, just used to make me fall of me motorbike! ;D (There were no drink-driving rules in those days, before anyone takes exception!) A couple of pints of Double Diamond and a couple of whopper cheese rolls lovely jubbly!!!
