Names on the memorial - I am trying to find out if there are any details eg date of death/ regiment behind these names. I wonder how the list was established . Any thoughts welcome please.

Every name on every War Memorial in Bromley is listed in a booklet in Bromley Central Library, the names were copied from that. There are no other details. There are some websites with the details you require.

The place to start is the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website. For cleverer searches such as "find all the people with Beckenham addresses", use the privately-developed front ends at WW1 or WW2. (Note: the WW1 site was down at the time of posting.) The CWGC records give you rank, service number, date of death, age, regiment, nationality, place of burial, home address, and names of relatives. Additional information on individuals may be found all over the place, such as local newspapers, the book "The Beating of His Wings", and several books by Lewis Blake. It you're looking for any particular person(s) tell us the name(s). One thing that bemuses me about the memorial is the little plate at the bottom giving a correction to someone's name. It must have taken some particularly stroppy and influential relative to get this put there -- I'm sure it's not the only mistake, and there must be many omissions.
