Hello I have only just discovered your post. Hopefully you will read this and be able to help in my quest to find out more about my relatives who lived at 110 Pawleyne Road. My mother Winifred Booth until she married in 1946 and my uncle Tom Foye, uncle George Booth and Johnnie Booth and auntie Marie Foye then later Uncle Tom (died in about 1954?) and his wife Sis and their children Tommy and June still lived there. Your reply with any information would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I am interested in knowing about the pub in Arpley called The Duke Of Edinborough or any photos you may have of Penge pubs. You should check out In and Around Penge on Facebook. www.facebook.com/groups/270864087740/

I know this is probably a long shot but I’m trying to finally complete my family tree and I’m stuck once again. My Great Grandad Leonard Humphreys is listed as having lived in Arpley Road with his Mum Emma and Dad John Henry Humphreys from about 1890 onwards! He had several siblings. I think his Mum Emma outlived him dying in 1960 and I’m not sure if she stayed in Penge. My great grandad Leonard married Liza Williams and they lived in Banghole Croydon.
I’m having trouble finding out what his Mum Emma’s maiden name was. I know it was a long time ago but if any of these names ring a bell please message me back on here. Thank you,
Chloé x

Re: King family of Penge. I wondered where Arpley Road in Penge was as checking it out from a 1901 census - house No.56 with an Alfred King, Isabella King and daughter Ethel. It appears to have been a tenement. Now I know the road has been demolished and not renamed it has saved me a journey. Sounds like Arpley Road was the same type of road as Forster Road and Wilford Road, off Windmill Road in Croydon where there were also Kings living in the 20/30s. There is a book about those roads in Croydon which mentions the King families (might be a connection with the Kings from Penge). Unfortunately I lent my copy out and never got it back. The title is something like "Living on the edge/precipice of poverty". Sorry, but I don't know anything about the King family as such as Isabella apparently left Alfred sometime before 1911.

I have tried responding via my mobile, but don't think it has worked (I am set up on my Work PC now)
In short, having spoken with my Mum (Norma Glover nee King) about your Post (which I only saw a day or so ago) I understand that you and she are cousins! Her dad was Bill, your Mum's brother.
She also mentioned that she saw you at "Mavis's house" about 10 years ago, although I can't remember who Mavis is! She remembers you as a journalist and also remembers the pen name under which you wrote for a certain magazine.
Small world eh!
Hope you are well

Yes their was kings living in Queens road Croydon. maybe Forster Rd. I'm told by my mum she thinks their are her dads cousins? He is Christopher foster. Read the book. See your name is Brooker. My mother mum is Ellen Brooker married a foster. Her parents are William Brooker and Emily Reeves. All Croydon born. Wonder if you are related to my brookers?

A friend is researching the history of Margo's Coaches who he thinks used to operate from a yard (probably a bomb site) in Arpley Road Penge.
Would anyone have any information, memories or pictures of the yard, location, anyone who worked there, or the vehicles?
Any information gratefully received. My email is roy@byeways.co
Thanks.

Hello Julie,
Just saw your post in respect of Kings in Croydon in response to my post regarding Arpley Road, Penge. I didn't recognise the Brooker names you gave. Have not done a full search yet of all the numerous cousins. William appears to have been a very common name given to Brookers, but two not very common names I have come across are Ebenezer and Caleb.
