Hi. Can anyone identify this little girl called Brenda, age 2, from the 1930s I believe? It was taken by Potter's photographers, 125 Oakfield Road, Penge, and is in the form of a postcard. Please open the link below: s853.photobucket.com/albums/ab93/PeteFisk/?action=view¤t=Brenda.jpgThe inscription on the back reads: "To Uncle Marc, from Brenda, age 2". Uncle Marc was my father, Marcus FISK who lived at 135 Blandford Road, Beckenham between 1910 and 1938, but he had no known neices of that name so the photo is a bit of a mystery. So, quite simply - does anyone know of a Brenda living (or lived) in the Beckenham/Penge area, possibly in their 70's now? Thanks, Pete

The Fisks' neighbours at 137 Blandford Road from 1935 were Ernest George Potter (to 1999) and Catherine May Potter (to 1977). One might hypothesise that they were related to Miss Alice A Potter who took over the photography business from Potter Bros in 1924 and lived/worked at 125 Oakfield Road until 1957[/li][li]. Brenda could thus have had lots of photos to give to her "uncles".
The birth of a Brenda E Potter was registered at Bromley in the March quarter 1938, mother's maiden name Brett, but there are no further details on FreeBMD where I can't find a Brett/Potter marriage. Brenda does not appear at age 21 at 137 in the 1959 ER, so either she wasn't Ernest & Catherine's daughter or she left home young.
That's as far as I've got. As Ernest was around as recently as 1998 (to appear in 1999 ER), maybe someone remembers him?
[/li][li] Dates are of Kelly's directories and electoral rolls, so could be a year or so out.

Hi Chrisdoran and Historian; sorry for the late reply, I've been somewhat tied up and haven't had time to look back in.
Thanks for the info Chris, you have worked hard and it sounds highly likely this could be our Brenda, with my father just being an "uncle", as you say! Interestingly, the Fisks are shown as living at 137 Blandford Rd at the 1911 census, and they were also there (apparently) in 1918 when Vernon was born, so, as I only recall my father mentioning 135 I think they must have moved sometime between 1918 and 1935 when the Potters moved into 137.
My father (Marcus Fisk) left Blandford Rd in 1938 and moved to Coney Hall, West Wickham - his parents (Cyrus and Amy Fisk) became ill shortly after and went to stay with him at West Wickham in 1939, so if this is our Brenda I can only assume Dad knew her when she was first born and used to go back to Blandford Rd to visit the Potters.
Just one more point... I was also of the opinion the Fisks lived in the 'top flat' (135), so a bit of confusion there, but of course, irrelevant to Brenda as such.
The Fisk children at the address were: Amy Doris, Claude, Edna, Marcus, Donald and Vernon. (Donald was born there in 1910 but died in 1913).
So, thanks very much for this info, I'll see if I can dig around with the Potter/Brett names and let you know what I find. Pete
