If you go to the photo gallery on this site and select gallery 3 then go to Maple Road there are some photos of the Button Factory fire in Maple Road. That was a question I asked in my mind. Obviously there is some difficulty in resolving it. I suppose one could ask - does it really matter? Since then I have learned that the aforementioned "Bruno" who won a scholarship, was to an establishment in Bromley. paduard

Sorry I was wishing to quote Alan Wisely's words concerning who owned the shares etc. But seemed unable to past this in - my computer error perhaps. paduard

I only raise this point out of interest. If during the war the button factory was critical to the war effort it may have been funded by the government but this would end when it was over. I know that there were "reserved occupation" employees my father being one of them. I recall Harry Byatt post war. He seemed quite a wealthy man and lived in a large house in Mersterham (which was the countryside then) so whoever owned it he ended up all right. I do have a photograph of Harry Byatt taken in 1940. Are the two photos of the factory; at the coronation and during the fire, the only ones known to exist?

My Mum, 92 years young, worked at the button factory. Her name was Hilda Butler and remembers all the people mentioned fondly

My sister mentioned to me recently that there was a Bruno Paloni in her class at school [whose parents owned the Button Factory] situated as far as we know in Maple Road just opposite Chalin Street where she was born, just prior to moving to Jasmine Grove. Subsequently there was talk of a fire occurring - does anyone remember the details of this establishment, location etc. and whether our memories are correct.? If you go here you will see images of the area and The Button Factory beckenhamhistory.co.uk/photo-gallery/#gallery/9__1597070211/3279/comments
